Ask anybody from the South -
there's nothing like a turkey deep fryer to produce the tastiest turkey
you've ever put in your mouth!
Growing up, I never cared much
for turkey. It only took one Thanksgiving in Louisiana to
completely change my mind.
Once you've tasted the crispy
skin, crunchy wings and succulent, tender, juicy meat, you'll
be spoiled for ever going back to dry, tough, roasted
turkey.
Imagine cooking an
entire turkey in as little as 45 minutes!
No more overheating your kitchen with a turkey that has to
roast for hours.
Is there a downside to a
turkey deep fryer? Just one. And some folks don't consider it a
downside at all. You can't stuff the turkey if you fry
it.
But that's okay,
stuffing deserves its own
pan anyway.
And when you go out to your
turkey deep fryer and use the grab hook to pull that golden
bird out of the hot oil, you'll be the star of the day. (Just
don't tell anybody how easy it really was!)
How Fast Does a Turkey Deep
Fryer Work?
The general guidelines for how to deep fry a
turkey state that it takes approximately three minutes per
pound in order for the turkey to be finished
properly.
It is important, however, that you fully heat
the oil in advance of putting the turkey into the fryer and
that you check the temperature of the turkey after taking it
out in order to make sure that it is finished
properly.
Depending on the size of your turkey deep
fryer, you will also want to generally keep the bird at under
15 pounds in order for it to be thoroughly cooked.
(And that 15 pound bird can be ready to serve in only 45
minutes!)

Turkey Deep Fryer Tips
Do
NOT try to build your own turkey
frier. It's
been tried, and the disatrous results that have come as a
result should be reason enough for you not to try it. Just
don't do it.
Always use your turkey
deep fryer outside. You're heating a large amount of oil,
and you're cooking an entire turkey, which is no small food
item!
A turkey deep
fryer made from cast iron aluminum is perfectly safe to
use if you follow the instructions to the letter.
But let's be honest,
sometimes, despite our best efforts, accidents happen. So
always take your turkey deep fryer outside to use
it.
For maximum flavor,
some folks swear by turkey rubs or turkey marinades before
frying. Check out the "Recipes" tab on the
right if you don't already have a favorite or just want to try
something new.
Pay attention to
safety. Please read these safety
tips before using any turkey frier,
regardless of brand.
